Good afternoon church family! Brandy Guyton has been diagnosed with a series of serious health issues. We want to provide any help we can for this family. We have set up a meal train to provide food for them during this time. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. The link is https://mealtrain.com/d86n36. Thank you in advance!
Dollars for Mission February 20 is the Congolese Refugee Family Children
After an 11-hour bus ride from the border to Oklahoma City, the Kasongo family arrived on July 23rd just before midnight. Mom, dad, and four children-12, 4, and 3 years old with a baby on the way were picked up at the bus terminal completely worn out. They had to be sent to a sponsor quickly. Larger families are hard to place. The financial and time requirements for these families are great. But the border humanitarian worker there thought Oklahoma Disciples and the Kasongo family would be a great match. She was correct.
This family is a beautiful, fun, Christian family. They have had their share of trials since arriving. But their strategy? Faith in God and prayer. After every bump and disappointment, after every worry about finances, somehow, they continue to believe God will provide. And, after prayer and giving credit to God for every good thing that happens, it works out. The last huge worry about finances after prayer and attitude of gratefulness, that’s when Central Christian stepped in. Central Christian, along with Tom Stanley and Don Johnson has helped this family through a tough time. God provided support and funding for housing, food, and school supplies and uniforms-through you!
This family still has hurdles to get past. Finances are always a concern, and an upcoming court date in which their status will be decided are prayed about daily. But they only focus on the joy and love they receive from Disciples. Every experience is considered a learning opportunity for them. They are learning their way around our very different culture and system. They have already made friends with other refugee and immigrant families, families who have helped them adjust. They in turn, help others as much as they can and look forward to a day of independence and their turn to help others more.
Since arriving, the three school age children are all in school and doing very well! They are smart kids. They have all made friends and participated in some of our culture’s holidays such as Halloween and Valentine’s Day. Everyone’s English has improved greatly, and they love getting visits from Disciples so they can practice. They say we are a blessing to them, and God is Good. In reality, they are the blessing in our lives as we live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and follow his instruction to love our neighbor.
