Central Christian Church is a congregational church in covenantal partnership with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. However, in the 19th century, the Disciples of Christ did not begin as a denomination. It began as a movement to unite all denominations, believing that there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:5) and God calls all people to be Jesus’ disciples. This historic and biblical principle shapes who we are as First Christian Church today.
At Central Christian Church, we:
Welcome ALL people to the Lord’s table every Sunday.
Baptize by immersion as a public profession of one’s faith in Jesus Christ as Lord when one accepts the call to follow Christ as a disciple.
Serve ecumenically alongside the other churches in our community, including: Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, and Catholics to fulfill our mission as the embodiment of Christ in a broken world.
Think for ourselves. We never ask members to “check their brain at the front door” but invite members to question, search and struggle with the mysteries of life and faith. We do not believe in indoctrination and believe it is appropriate to agree to disagree, even with the pastor.
Accept Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, is our Lord and Savior and in Him our lives have eternal meaning.
Believe all Christians are ministers as each Christian is gifted by the Holy Spirit to serve God by serving others.
Follow Christ as disciples by selflessly and sacrificially serving others as a witness to the world of God’s love for all people.
Partner with Christians all over the world to fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples in every nation and land.
Observe Holy Communion every Sunday to remind us of our unity with all Christians and of our call to selflessly and sacrificially follow Christ.
Fellowship with covered dish and catered meals often and regularly. We also fellowship by sharing in one another’s joys and sufferings.
Care for our members and for those in our community who are not members through intercessory prayer and other acts of love.
Possess a passion for justice and are advocates for the poor and marginalized.
Value diversity as a gift from God.
Commit to grow the church by including new members in all areas of church life, including leadership.
Emphasize our ministry to children and youth in our community.
Work to be the Body of Christ in this community and in our world through hands-on mission opportunities.
Invite all people to join our mission.
